I just found this tutorial by Pickled Cockroach for making Flappy Bird in Godot and I think it's what I'm going to use as a base.
I'm about 11 minutes into the first video and I think it's going to make my work a lot easier.
As they say, the best artists steal...
To make a "new" game, I like to play around with some incremental improvements to an existing game.
I chose Flappy Bird.
